Walter Dorwin Teague Sparton Deco Radio

The Sparton Model 5518 Selectronne Radio was designed by Walter Dorwin Teague and was first introduced in 1938.
This Radio has a great overall machine age design reminiscent of the Lawson Zephyr Clock.
The dial has been described as resembling an automobile dashboard.
The metal case has a faux woodgrain finish. Interestingly, this finish was chemically applied using a patented process produced by the Oxford Varnish Company.
The radio is AM only but plays loud and clear in my basement using only the bunched-up single red wire attached to the antenna lead.
I didn’t try using the station preset buttons, and they may or may not work.
The button on the left appears loose and most assuredly does not work.
Overall, the radio is clean and in fairly nice used condition.
On the left top of the radio there is an area where the faux finish has worn away exposing the metal cabinet (see my photographs).
This is an opportunity to obtain one of Teague’s iconic Sparton Radios on a model that doesn’t come up for sale all that often.
