Description

This is a RARE, lovely porcelain figurine of a shepherdess with her sheep, created by Italian Master Artist Giuseppe Armani. Although his signature does not appear on the piece, my research shows that he created the original piece. The letters "AG" (see photo #8) appear on the base of this sculpted figurine, which stands for "Artigianato di Capodimonte" which translates to "Capodimonte Craftsmanship" in Italian. This indicates the piece was produced by a skilled artisan from the Capodimonte porcelain factory in Naples, Italy. The "N" with a crown signifies that this piece was made by the Royal Porcelain Manufactory of Naples (see photo #5). "Shepherdess with Sheep" measures 11 1/2" in height, and has a hardwood base with a 7 1/2" round diameter. She weighs a hefty 5 1/4 lbs., and has a matching piece (Shepherd Boy with Sheep - please see my other listing!). The porcelain has a semi-matte gloss finish and is hand painted in rustic colors. Notice the beautiful painted flowers on her dress (see photos # 8,11). With one hand she reaches out and calms the sheep beside her. Her peaceful and serene face (photo #3) is typical of Armani's creations. This piece is artistically intricate and a beautiful example of Italian Capodimonte porcelain.
